About The Club
In 1984 a small group of organ enthusiasts met to further their common interest. They founded the
North East Derbyshire Organ Society
a non-profit making community organisation dedicated to promoting interest in the electronic organ and serving the needs of organ enthusiasts and providing top-class entertainment for everyone who simply enjoys listening to music played on modern electronic keyboard instruments.
The word “organ” conjures up a picture of a sombre instrument in the corner of a church or perhaps a brightly lit console rising from the pit of an old theatre or cinema. Nothing could be further from the truth because, through the miracles of modern technology, today’s electronic instruments can produce an unbelievable range of musical sounds and many are capable of emulating all of the instruments in a symphony orchestra, jazz band or even the voices of a choir, as well as the traditional sounds of the organ. Those who are not familiar with these modern instruments should prepare to be amazed!
Over the years, NEDOS has grown to become one of the UK’s best known and most popular organ societies with a membership of over 200.
As our society approaches its 30th year, it is generally considered that it’s future has limited potential whilst the words “Organ” & “Society” remain in the title. In an effort to dispel the popular misconception that our concerts consist primarily of hymn singing and classical recitals and to make our society and its music appear more attractive and appealing to the general public, a new name was introduced in 2013; World of Music.
Each month the society presents a concert and World of Music takes great pride in engaging the very best players with a range of styles as diverse as music itself. These artistes, whether Internationally famous or young rising stars of the future, provide first class entertainment catering for all musical tastes from light classical to modern and an evening spent in their company is truly memorable.
NEDOS and World of Music have gained a reputation amongst visitors and artistes alike for the quality of its artistes, the professional presentation of it’s concerts and the warm and friendly welcome it offers to visitors. Why not come along and experience for yourself the enjoyment of live music?
The current admission charge to our concerts is £6.00 (members £5.00) Accompanied children are admitted FREE. Membership costs just £5.00 per year and provides advance information, priority booking and where possible, reduced charges for World of Music events (some of which are “members only”) as well as a £1.00 saving on admission to each of our concerts and reduced admission to concerts presented by many of our neighbouring clubs and societies.
